I see comments like "illegals" taking our money and "healthcare." Only possession of the facts and a willingness to live in reality prepares one to speak out in a knowledgeable manner about the socio-economic effect of the presence or departure of people--many are here illegally, but they are intimidated by the manner of enforcement and, even more so, by the hostile climate that is worsening by the day. Is the writer speaking of the fact that "illegals" are forced to seek expensive treatment in ERs because, their presence in this country being unauthorized, they have no access to other forms of health care and social assistance? Or is the writer so misinformed that he/she believes that "illegals" actually have access to such services?
Unfortunately, anger, resentment, bigotry, ethnocentrism, and gullibility all generate emotion; being human, we are far more likely to act on our feelings than on our good judgment.
I'd be willing to bet that the businesses being hurt are those which cater to Hispanics who don't speak English. Just my take on it. I'm sorry they are being hurt, but if illegal aliens are patronizing them that is unfortunate. I think it they broaden their horizons and speak English, put up signs in English, their businesses will pick up again. This is America after all and we do speak English here...
Losing the illegal aliens just doesn't break my heart. Let them go to LA where they are loved. Isn't Vermont or one of those others a sanctuary State? I'm sure they will welcome them with open arms. Can we send Gordon with them? Just a hopeful thought...
I used to work for a major restaurant chain (well two actually) as a manager and I never had any white applicants for prep, dish, or cook work. However, most of the guests were... if it wasnt for the group of guys that came up each week from Mexico we would have never kept our kitchen staffed.
As I mentioned before, how about the landlords of apartments and homes that are being rented to illegals that are going to leave - I guess that surplus of english speaking tenants they have been turning away will finally have a place to rent. Whats another foreclosure in this town anyway, huh? Oh wait... an apartment failing means the office staff, the maintenance staff all need jobs, and the people that service those people... this is a trickle down disaster immigration being perpetuated by a nation of immigrants.

In Tucson, we are already suffering for this. Malls are empty, because the Mexican customers are not coming to buy. They are going to California instead. One of Tucson's main income comes from the huge commerce that we have with the Sonora, Sinaloa and other States from Mexico. Mexico has always proven to be a loyal neighbor, with all it's problems. If we want to end this problem, the solution is not to build fences or discriminate by your birth location. Instead of this, wouldn't it be better to give business to Mexico instead of China, a longtime USA enemy? Instead of having meetings with Mexican representatives about drugs, have meetings with them on how to increase business between both countries. I bet that we would have a lot less undocumented immigration. Mexicans want to be in their country, but earn more money here, even if the wages are far beneath the minimum wages in the USA. Poverty and opportunities to make a fast buck have increased the criminals on both sides of the border. Don't think that only the other side is corrupt, how can so many tons of drugs be distributed if not with the help of corrupt police and politician on this side?. Nogales is an empty Ghost town. Check it out. So sad.
This president..or the one wh follows, should sit down and make a plan to increase commerce and labor with Mexico, that is the only solution. If we do not want to become an East Berlin.
Bush was in negotiations to allow for a more intelligent approach to the shared labor issues between US and Mexico when 9/11 happened and it has all been tabled since.
Now with the fear mongering Arizona it will be a hard road to get back there again, but I have faith.
If drugs were the problem - as Brewer tried to lie about - you would see a huge increase in drug related border crimes in the media, we know they like to get the publicity everytime and to be able to add the immigration issue into it would just be gravy but they just arent there.
It is just going to get worse before it betters. Defaults on rents, defaults on other bills, which means apartments and leasers will be out of money, employers will be closing due to lack of employees and shoppers in the retail side. Less staffing in the food and drink side which means worse service, slower cook times, or higher menu prices... for things we are already struggling to pay for.

Those immigrants that are leaving help drive the economy. No modern economy can survive with a declining population. There are already way too many empty houses around the Phoenix area. If a half a million people leave, that will only add to the problems in the real estate market. That will in turn drive the property values even lower. That doesn't even take into consideration the impacts from all those people no longer buying goods and services. When people leave an area, it certainly doesn't create any jobs. The biggest industries that those illegal immigrants work in is agriculture, which will not survive foreign competition if they had to pay wages that would attract Americans to work the fields, and construction, which should grind to a halt even worse than it already has with a declining population. People are dreaming if they think that a declining population will lead to any kind of economic benefit. They system just doesn't work that way.
Sure it will have an impact on the economy and businesses. Just think now the kids on summer breaks will get a chance of working and maybe some the people who are selling papers on every corner might get a chance to work inside for a change.
Plus the welfare recipients will probably be offered jobs and reduce our welfare.
The biggest reason for illegal aliens has always been to keep wages down and now business will have to pay fair wages.
And you will have to pay higher prices.... this is not a win for anyone.
The kids cant get jobs because of the adults that are looking. Not because of immigration issues. In the two years I managed retaurants (On the Border specifically) here I never had a white teenager apply for a kitchen, dishwasher, or prep job. 50% of the applicants were illegal and not a one of them were caucasian - well ok, MAYBE 1.... Thats $8-12 an hour job.
Even Brewer acknowledges they arent taking jobs we want, thats why she changed her lies to the smuggling argument this round. Typical politician behavior. Losing the debate, change the topic.
I dont remember voting for her myself.

Do you really think that any true american will want to go scrub bathrooms, work in the sun all day to build a nice house, pick the fruit or vegetable your gonna eat for dinner time? Of course not, I know I wouldn't.
Then you must not be one of the unemployed desperate to work. If I had no job the yes I would scrub bathroom floors, work in sewage or anything I could do to support myself and family without expecting a free hand out. Then again maybe you were just raised to think your self "too good" for manual labor
I believe the illegal immigrants leaving Arizona is the best thing for the economy, due to the fact, with them leaving it will open up more job opportunities for true Arizonan's to be able to go back to work. The illegal's leaving will get everyone off of unempoyment, so the money that has been going out for unemployment can be put back and Arizona will start coming out the hole we're in.
You sound so naive, Arizona is in a hole as the rest of the world. If the world is getting smaller thx to the internet, it will be wise to regroup communities ( countries) into working together and get the business out there. It is very unwise to have a sore neighbor, specially when we are at war with other countries.
Data in:
In 1936 Hitler flirted with the Mexican President at the time, to join the Nazi Movement. Mexico refused and became an enemy to Hitler alleging the United States is a Neighbor and a friend. I bet you never knew that. Do your homework. For good or bad, Mexico is a neighbor and there is not a chance to move to another neighborhood. So get real and let's do something about it and make the best on both sides. We do not want an enemy next door. Trust me.
Sounds to me like you don't care if the illegals come and take our money and healthcare. They come over here illegally and steal our Social Security numbers and take our hard earned money and our healthcare from Americans that become disabled like myself so that we get fined by the Federal Government because we can't get helath insurance. My wife has seen it time and time again being an apartment manager ,the Mexican women that come in with stolen SS numbers trying to get an apartment . I don't mind them coming over here legally , but to sneak over here and to steal from us is a different story. I have alot of Mexican-American friends and most of them agree with the new law. The more illeaglas that leave , the more Americans can get a job. Trust me ,if you weren't so blasted blind you would see that.
What hard earned money are they taking? The money they earned by working?
I agree with the social security numbers and I wish there was a way for them to work here legally. I fully support legally documenting people to come over here and work and IF that was an option most undocumented migrants would do that.
There is not a truly accessible path for a low wage employee to come into the United States and work legally.
What they are doing is wrong because the law says it is. However, the law is not always right. It is fluid and ever changing and this one needs to be changed.
I cant debate with someone that claims people steal healthcare though. As far as I am concerned it is criminal that healthcare is a bartable system to begin with. I have spent the last 5 years working in the medical insurance industry and if you want to discuss the theft of healthcare you really should start with them. The average acceptable automatic denial rate is over 50% through most carriers and I know multiple Dr.s that have left the profession due to the insurance companies lack of payout, not because they had to tend to someone in need without insurance.
